We recently built two different kinds of dehydrators. One is constructed from an clothes dresser and uses a battery (charged by solar panel) to run computer fans which should speed the dehydration process. This model also contains a window which lets light into a heating chamber below the dehydrating trays. The second dehydrator style consists of simple wooden frames and metal screens to keep bugs away. This dehydrator is set out in the sun and relies on direct sunlight and convection from any air movement.
We put sliced plumbs from our plumb tree in both dehydrators, and it will be interesting to see which style of dehydrator performs the best.
